Consumer Electronics Repair

Consumer electronics manufacturers face a specific version of the returns problem. Return rates average 20%. Of those returns, 68% are No Fault Found — the product works, but once the box is opened it cannot go back into primary inventory. What happens next determines whether that unit generates revenue or becomes a write-off.

PanurgyOEM manages the full return lifecycle for consumer electronics manufacturers and distributors — from the moment a return arrives at our dock to its final outcome, whether that is a repaired unit back in a customer’s hands or a refurbished unit generating revenue in a resale channel.

The Two Problems Most Companies Treat as One

Every consumer electronics return splits into two distinct paths.

Path 1: The customer is waiting. They sent in a tablet, a robot vacuum, a set of headphones. They want it back. How fast and how consistently that happens determines whether they remain your customer. Slow or unpredictable repair turnaround erodes trust quietly — it rarely shows up on a single bad review, but it accumulates.

Path 2: The customer already got a refund or replacement. The returned unit is now sitting in a warehouse. It is not broken. It is not A-stock. It is depreciating daily, waiting for someone to decide what to do with it.

Most manufacturers manage these as separate problems, with separate vendors or no structured process at all for the second path. That is where value destruction concentrates.

PanurgyOEM is built to own both.

Why Manufacturers Move Away from In-House Repair

In-house repair programs make sense until the volume becomes inconsistent — and consumer electronics volume is always inconsistent. Holiday returns spike. A product launch creates an unexpected wave of early failures. A component issue generates a recall.

The structural problem with in-house repair is fixed capacity against variable demand. During slow periods, you are carrying technicians, bench space, tooling, and parts inventory that are not generating revenue. During spikes, you have no surge capacity and turnaround times stretch — at the worst possible time.

The hidden cost calculation is also usually incomplete. Technician salaries and facility rent are on the spreadsheet. Diagnostic tooling capital expenditure, bench parts inventory carrying cost, training and certification, workers’ compensation and benefits for a fluctuating workforce, and the management attention diverted from core business are typically not. When those are included, outsourced depot repair typically shows 30–50% in operational savings.

Why Manufacturers Switch Vendors

The most common reason we see manufacturers switch is not repair quality — it is that their current vendor handles one part of the lifecycle and not the rest. Repair is handled, but there is no structured process for NFF returns. Refurbishment is handled, but it is not connected to their eCommerce platform. Multiple vendors are involved and no single partner owns the outcome.

The second most common reason is inconsistency. A regional or multi-vendor service network introduces variation that is difficult to control from the outside — different turnaround windows, different quality standards, different levels of communication. Your customers experience your brand, not your vendor map.

Every unit assessed at intake — repairable, refurbishable, or scrap — with a defined workflow for each outcome. Nothing sits waiting for a decision.

Refurb Store Fulfillment Full backend operation for your refurb store: receive, log, inspect, test to your pass/fail standards, clean, accessorize, repackage, assign B-stock SKU, and add to live eCommerce inventory. Failure Mode Reporting Every repair generates data. When the same component fails across multiple units, that pattern is identified and reported to your engineering team. Repair volume becomes product intelligence.

Is PanurgyOEM the Right Fit?

PanurgyOEM is a strong fit if your company handles ongoing return and repair volume, has warranty or aftermarket obligations, experiences variable demand that is difficult to staff internally, or is evaluating whether in-house repair still makes financial sense.

We are not the right fit for one-off or low-volume transactional repair, or for companies whose primary selection criterion is lowest per-unit price.

If returns are an operational system — not an occasional exception — we should talk.
